Join Freddie Gillespie, steward and land manager of the 100-acre Breakneck Hill Conservation Land, to see what functional pollination systems can do for biodiversity. Walk through the gardens and meadows and hear the various challenges encountered and the excitement of success as Dr. Gegear’s research has documented increased populations of some of our most at-risk pollinators. Meet in the parking lot next to 66 Breakneck Hill Road Southborough at the Beecology Research Garden.

Freddie Gillespie is the Chair of Southborough’s Open Space Preservation Commission and a founding member of the Southborough  Stewardship Committee which has oversight of the 100-acre Breakneck Hill Conservation Land. For over 20 years Freddie
has been working on invasive removal projects, managing pollinator and grassland bird habitat with a focus on native plant establishment. In 2015 she invited Dr. Robert Gegear on a site visit to Breakneck Hill and when the at-risk bumblebee (Bombus fervidus) flew by he had his first research site in Massachusetts. Freddie has been working with Dr. Gegear for 10 years going into their 11th season of successful collaboration. She is starting up a new group called Biodiversity through Pollination.
